Louisville Cardinals’ Fans – Ignorance at its best

A typical Loserville (Louisville) fan posted this yesterday on my Facebook. Career wise I totally agree that Pitino is the better coach, based on the fact he has won a National Championship. Right now Calipari is at least, ten times better.

This woman like 99% of Louisville Cardinals fans, lacks common sense. They are blinded from the truth, facts and logic. Pitino’s greatness was at UK. In eight short years, 2 of those being lost to probation, Pitino guided UK to three Final Fours, five Elite Eights and a National Championship.

Pitino has been at Louisville since 2001. He has lost in the second round or less, 7 times. He has lost in the first round or made the NIT, 5 times. He is clearly not the coach he once was.

Here is his record while at UK –

Kentucky Wildcats (Southeastern Conference) (1989–1997)
1989–90 Kentucky 14–14 10–8 T–9th
1990–91 Kentucky 22–6 14–4 T–8th
1991–92 Kentucky 29–7 12–4 1st / 1st NCAA Elite Eight
1992–93 Kentucky 30–4 13–3 2nd / 1st NCAA Final Four
1993–94 Kentucky 27–7 12–4 2nd / 1st NCAA Second Round
1994–95 Kentucky 28–5 14–2 4th / 1st NCAA Elite Eight
1995–96 Kentucky 34–2 16–0 1st / 2nd NCAA Champion
1996–97 Kentucky 35–5 13–3 2nd / 1st NCAA Runner-up
Kentucky: 219–50 104–28

Here is Pitino’s record at Loserville –

Louisville Cardinals (Conference USA) (2001–2005)
2001–02 Louisville 19–13 8–8 T–8th NIT Second Round
2002–03 Louisville 25–7 11–5 3rd / 1st NCAA Second Round
2003–04 Louisville 20–10 9–7 T–6th NCAA First Round
2004–05 Louisville 33–5 14–2 1st / 1st NCAA Final Four
Louisville: 97–35 42–22
Louisville Cardinals (Big East Conference) (2005–present)
2005–06 Louisville 21–13 6–10 T–11th NIT Semifinals
2006–07 Louisville 24–10 12–4 T–2nd NCAA Second Round
2007–08 Louisville 27–9 14–4 T–2nd NCAA Elite Eight
2008–09 Louisville 31–6 16–2 1st / 1st NCAA Elite Eight
2009–10 Louisville 20–13 11–7 T–5th NCAA 1st Round
2010–11 Louisville 25–10 12–6 T–3rd NCAA 1st Round
2011–12 Louisville 12–1 0–1

You Louisville fans can have him. He’s only good at banging crazy old ugly blondes on tables these days.

Louisville Cardinals are not a top 10 team

The past three years we’ve seen U of L start out “strong”. Of course we UK fans know better. We see that you play absoutly nobody until they finally play UK. In the past three seasons U of L has only played five non-conference games away from the KFC Yum! Center and Freedom Hall, with three of the “away” games being played in Kentucky – twice against UK and at WKU last year. No shock you start every season 11-1, 10-2 or 12-0. I would hope a team from the Big East can beat the OVC, WAC and Sun Conference’s finest.

Pitino’s days of greatness are over. His days of greatness were all at UK. At UK, Pitino took them to three Final Fours, five Elite Eights and a National Championship. Pitino has lost in the second round or sooner 7 times while at U of L, twice making the NIT. U of L has a coach who is years past his prime. It’s cute watching them over-hype a top 35 team year after year.

Remember fellow UK fans the logic U of L fans will use. They beat UCONN last year twice. That means they were better than UK. If U of L would beat IU later in the season that would also mean they are better than UK. Sadly this is an actual debate from U of L fans. Sad that their program has came to that. U of L is what it is – a program built for not making the Sweet 16.

(Morehead State proves U of L wasn’t even the 2nd best team in the state last year)

UK beats U of L for third straight year

Not really a shock, U of L has played nobody all year long. Every game this year was in Louisville besides a win against a bad Butler team. Of course U of L fans will remind you Butler made two straight Final Fours.

Is your real name Woody Long?

I am going to be honest. My name is not Woody Long. Be pretty cool if my name was though. There are actually a few reasons of why I use a fake name while posting. First off, I like my job. I would hate to post under my real name and my work would come across this site. Second, I don’t want people I dislike knowing I am a writer on this site. Thirdly, Woody Long is dedicated to a dear friend of Bourbon Stilz.

Back in Bourbon Stilz’s high school days, before his patch of gray hair and drunkenness, Stilz and a buddy wrote a 100 (give or take a few) page story known as “Brain John”. The story was a Satire about a nerd they knew in high school. He wore the giant frame glasses, had the “Bill Gates” hair style and high-water pants. The story was about Brain John’s (real name – look at Brain and form a real first name) high jacking nukes and blowing up Iraq. Why Iraq? Your guess is as good as mine.

Much like me, Stilz’s friend went by a fake name in the story. He became known as “Woody Long”. His real name is Ryan and to this day, is friends with Bourbon Stilz. God only knows how many innocent women they have molested. When I took the role as writer and admin, I was told “Woody Long” would have to be my screen name. My ideas and sense of humor suck. So I agreed without argument.

(Ryan, drunk like usual – Woody Long my screen name is dedicated to him)

By the way, that is my real picture on my blog profile. No, I don’t normally look that way. That was during Halloween.

“Retard” is a racial slur

I’ve been friends with a guy name Keith for over two years now. He works with people that have numerous disabilities. Some have physical disabilities while others have mental disabilities. He takes a lot of pride in his work. Not only does he have a paying job doing this, but Keith spends hours outside of work doing volunteer work.

I’m not going to pretend and lie that I’ve learned a lot from Keith about people with disabilities. Nor have I taken the time to get involved with helping out. But I have learned one thing and I wish others would too, don’t call these people” retards”. Don’t make jokes about people and their disabilities.  The word “retard” is a word people shouldn’t use any more than people using the “n” word. You may disagree but that is a total lack of common sense.

The word “retard” is used daily. Shows like “South Park” and “Family Guy” use it almost daily. Sometimes an entire episode is based on poking fun at people with disabilities, mostly those with mental disabilities. People use it in society normally to describe something they don’t like or something stupid. It’s used to describe a person during a joke. But there’s nothing funny about the word “retard”.

How would you feel if your child or sibling was mentally disabled? Would it be funny if someone called them a retard? Would you laugh? I highly doubt any decent person would. You would be offended.  When you say the word “retard” about someone that is mentally disabled, remember that they are somebody’s brother, sister or child. Even when you say it as a joke think about who could be around. How do you know a bystander nearby doesn’t have someone close to them that is mentally disabled? You don’t and that’s another reason you shouldn’t use it.

Listen, I’m guilty as charged. I’ve used that word many times. But I’ve learned not to use that word. Why not call something dumb, “dumb”? Why not call something stupid, “stupid”? Do we really need to use “retard”? Use common sense. In the 1950’s a large number of white people called black people the “n” word. To us that almost seems silly these days. It’s time we end the use of the “r” word too. The “r” word is no different than calling a black person the “n” word or a gay man a “fag”. I’ve changed, so there’s no reason you can’t.

White Castle to add alcohol?

America is already the fattest nation on earth. How can we make people even unhealthier? Easy, start selling beer and alcohol at White Castles!

Since most people eat White Castles at 2am or later, and are already drunk, how about more alcohol ? Sounds like a winning combination, and a lawsuit waiting to happen.

AC/DC – rock icons

I’ve listened to a lot of bands in my lifetime. Some have been great, some okay and others flat out suck. Many bands have all the talent in the world, but no feel for the music. Some bands make decent sounding albums but can’t play live what so ever. For every band I enjoy listening to I can name 25 I can’t stand. Many bands come, and many bands go. Only a select few have made a major impact on music.

(AC/DC 1976, back row left to right, Mark Evans, Angus Young, Phil Rudd, front row left to right, Bon Scott and Malcolm Young)

AC/DC is one of my favorite bands of all-time, probably behind Metallica. I’m not going to sit here and tell you that Angus Young is the greatest guitar player of all-time. Not going to debate their “musical” talent with you. I could care less if you like AC/DC. If you think they suck, cool, don’t listen to them. Without AC/DC a lot of great music would be missing from rock n’ roll history.

Some bands were great innovators, such as Led Zeppelin. Others such as Elvis took the world by storm. People like Jimi Hendrix came and died way too soon. Then there’s AC/DC. They didn’t change music. They didn’t take the world by storm. Nothing they did was impressive. AC/DC played simple blues-based songs, normally three chords and backed by a simple 2/4 drum beat. I’m not sure who hated AC/DC more, music critics or parents.

AC/DC never cared what critics thought. Hell, they never took themselves seriously. They were simply five guys that loved playing rock n’ roll music. AC/DC would have been happy playing in front of 25 people no different than when they play in front of 80,000. AC/DC was never about being liked, being the best or famous. It was about fun. The fun can be found in the mass majority of their songs.

Love songs weren’t part of AC/DC’s vocabulary. AC/DC never cared to sing about politics, their feelings or thoughts on life. Their songs were about booze, parties, women, drugs, daydreaming of being rich, women, sex, whores, touring and women. They played the songs fast, loud and good. A lot of bands have tried to copy AC/DC ever since and almost all have come up short.

Seeing AC/DC live was another experience all in itself. The band sounded almost identical live as they did in the studio. You never hear or see AC/DC missing beats or chords. The sound is perfect, note for note. Then there was Angus Young. Seeing him perform live was worth the ticket price alone. You got two hours of non-stop head-banging, giant jumping leaps and his “spaz out”. Then there’s the famous (infamous) strip routine, not recommended for Bible thumpers, children or women. I also doubt you want mom to see unless she likes AC/DC.

(Angus and his famous [infamous] strip tease)

In 1980, AC/DC lost singer Bon Scott. Most bands are never the same once they lose a singer. Some quit all together while others never maintain the same level of fame. AC/DC did the exact opposite. Brian Johnson, along with the band recorded “Back in Black” just a few months after Scott’s death. And how did fans respond? Let’s just say “Back in Black” sold 23 million copies in the USA and 49 million copies worldwide, making it the second best-selling album of all time.

To date, AC/DC has sold 73 million albums in the USA, good for eight all-time. Worldwide AC/DC has sold over 200 million albums.  Their tours sellout all across the globe, from 4,000 seat arenas to massive soccer stadiums. As head-liners, AC/DC once played with other bands in front of a few million Russians. Their last tour grossed $441,121,000, good for third all-time. Not bad for a band that critics blasted as “sucky”, “all songs sound alike” and “childish immature losers.”

You can think what you want about AC/DC. They rock. The band has withstood the test of time. They outlived glam rock, disco, new-wave, early 90’s pop, grunge and new-country. Their musical talent may be nothing when compared to that of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd or Jimi Hendrix. Could any of those bands fit such big balls in small shorts, survive the Highway to Hell and The Jack? Highly unlikely. That’s way AC/DC deserves to be mentioned among the “Gods” of rock music.

(AC/DC 2009, nothing like 70,000 South Americans rocking out)

UK vs. U of L 12/31/11 – Nation’s best college basketball rivalry

I try to be the most honest fan there is. I never root or bet against UK. Even when UK is bad or below average I still bet for them to win against U of L. This year looks to be a classic in the making. Of course in a rivalry anything can happen. These types of games never end the way they should. Last year everyone thought it was going to be a close game. Instead, UK hammered U of L. The year before that everyone thought UK would win by 20 or more. Instead, they won by nine. Below is how I believe the teams match-up.

Coaching – Even. Pitino is a future hall of famer, and should already be in there. He isn’t the best of the best that he once was, but the man can still coach and motivate players. Calipari is the top recruiter in the game today, and great motivator. His X’s and O’s aren’t up to par with Pitino, but he can make average players (Josh Harrellson ring a bell?) play like a top ten NBA draft pick on any given day.

Starters – UK has the edge. They have five future first round NBA draft picks. These five guys can all play great basketball. They are quick, physical, great defensively; most can play multiply positions and better shooters than the past two UK teams.

Bench – Louisville has the edge. Louisville can go 9 or 10 deep. UK can maybe go 7, with Miller being the only true threat. Louisville can sub any position with multiply players, making them hard to defend. Louisville’s bench may be as good as their starters.

Strength of schedule – UK has a slight edge. U of L has the higher RPI, but has no wins against any current top 25 team. UK has beaten Kansas and UNC, both top 15 teams, with UNC being a top five team. People say strength of schedule doesn’t matter, but it does. UK proved that last year against U of L.

Offense – U of L has the edge. They are way more consistent than UK. UK may be scoring more points a game, but at times, UK looks lost on the court. Their point guard play has me worried most.

Defense – Even. Many UK fans will disagree with this and say UK is much better. But UK and U of L play two very different styles of defense. UK can block shots better than any team in the nation but they get schooled a lot behind the three point line. U of L’s full court press and zone is second to none. However, U of L falls asleep under the basket a lot, even against much weaker opponents.

Crowd – UK has the edge. U of L will bring a lot of fans to Rupp. But UK fans will still dominate the crowd. UK also doesn’t like to lose at home. And they don’t lose under Calipari at Rupp.

Score,

UK 73, U of L 70.

Feel free to tell me what you believe the score will be.

Louisville Cardinals Fans – Fair-weather liars

Louisville Cardinals fans are people just like you and me. Most of them are good people. Nobody is saying they are horrible human beings. Living in Louisville means the majority of my friends are Louisville fans.  I even have family (two sisters and some nieces) that are U of L fans. So many U of L fans are people that I care about. Them being a U of L fan doesn’t change how I care about them what so ever.

U of L fans love to bad mouth UK fans as being rude, arrogant and fair-weather. The first two may hold a little truth. A lot of UK fans are very nasty toward other fan bases, mainly that of U of L. When it comes to college basketball, UK is very arrogant and cocky. But saying UK are fair-weather fans is a myth and a lie. To find a fair-weather fan, U of L fans should take a look in the mirror. Nothing says fair-weather more than a U of L fan.

First let’s begin with U of L football. Under Bobby Petrino U of L Football was pretty damn good. They won a lot of games including the Orange Bowl and Big East Championship. Take away one bad quarter and U of L could have gone undefeated. Home games were sold out. During Football season you saw tons of U of L car flags, fans wearing their red in public and bars packed with U of L fans. Then Steve Kragthorpe took over as coach. Each season they won less and less. Papa John’s Stadium was normally one-third to half empty. All the talk of future National Championships ceased to exist. Hell, I almost forgot U of L had a football program, as did most U of L fans. Now since U of L is decent again, the football hype is back. The “fans” are now “fans” again. That’s the U of L way – win we’re a fan, lose we aren’t.

U of L basketball fans are no better. Growing up during the UK Pitino days all I heard was how he cheats, was a crybaby and snob. When Denny Crum started losing, how did U of L fans repay this legend? They ran him, his Value City suit and hairpiece out of Freedom Hall as quickly as they could. When U of L hired Pitino he went from cheat to the next great thing. He went from crybaby to gentleman. He went from snob to classy. That is how U of L fans treat their greatest Coach once he can’t win. They replace him with their archrival’s has been coach – priceless!

Lately U of L fans have picked up traits from known liar, Pitino. Pitino told the world how the KFC Yum! Center would be the greatest basketball arena of all-time (it is nice btw). For weeks before it was open U of L fans talked trash about their new great arena. They told us UK fans how it would make Rupp look like crap and how all the major recruits would flock to it. One would think with all the hype that a brand new state of art arena would have been sold out in hours, right? Wrong. The first game ever played in “the greatest basketball arena ever” didn’t even sellout until the day of the game. Actually it didn’t sellout until a few hours before game time. What a fan base!

Prior to basketball season there’s always hype for both UK and U of L. The difference is always the same – UK has a better fan base. Both teams start off the new season with “Basketball Madness”, a chance for fans to see the team, mainly the new freshman players. This year U of L fans talked more trash than normal, mainly due to their high preseason ranking (which they did deserve). Yet only 11,000 “hardcore” fans filled their 22,500 seat arena. UK on the other hand, had a sellout crowd at Rupp of 24,000 plus.

This past year Louisville fans have amazed me more than ever before. Now they pretend they know about women’s basketball and even a bigger joke, soccer. Soccer, really, you enjoy soccer? Most Americans hate soccer. UK’s soccer team could be ranked number one and I would care more about taking a nice dump. U of L got good in soccer and now I meet dedicated U of L soccer fans. Please, I doubt half of these idiots even know three rules of soccer. It’s funny how a few years ago I never heard or saw any U of L fan talking about soccer. Isn’t it amazing they do well; a few fans see it in the paper and jump on the bandwagon? They might as well, they do it for every other sport they play, why not soccer?

U of L fans can say what they want about UK fans. I rather be called those names than be fair-weather like your fan base. Even under drunk Billy Gillispie, senior day sold out and UK fans took over the SEC Tournament. Unlike U of L, our seniors didn’t play in a 50%-60% empty stadium. We UK fans also don’t pretend to know things about fake sports like soccer and cheerleading (which UK dominates btw). UK would have never ran Rupp out of Lexington and then replace him with a rival coach. Of course if UK did, the fans would have never accepted it like U of L fans accepted Pitino.

Listen, brag all you want about the KFC Yum! Center. It’s still smaller than Rupp arena. Add more seats to Papa John’s Stadium. It’s still over 15,000 seats smaller than Commonwealth. UK fans will always outnumber opposing fans during the SEC Tournament while it’s like looking for Waldo when trying to find U of L fans during the Big East Tournament. Little brother always wants what big brother has. U of L will never have a great fan base like that of UK’s.
