Happy 4th of July

We can bad mouth this nation all we want. I am proud to be an American. We are far from perfect. We still have the best freedoms in the world. People like George Washington made this true.

Our nation has come along ways since the days of slavery. The “Free World” is led by a black man. Give thanks to people like MLK JR.

People like my Uncle George made America the best of the best. He was born in Poland in 1937 during the Nazi take over. He came to America and defended this nation for 20 years as a Green Beret. He is proof of the American dream.

Thank you to the men and women who serve this nation

America has its share of faults. We are from perfect. This nation still has the greatest freedoms in the world. Websites such as mine can exist. TV shows such as “Saturday Night Live” can poke fun at our politicians daily. People like Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert make a living poking fun at politics and our elected leaders. In some nations, these men would be arrested and possibly even murdered for this.

People in this nation can even burn our nation’s flag; refuse to sing the National Anthem and refuse to sing the Pledge of Allegiance. Our nation even allows people to join anti-American groups and hate groups. That is how great our freedom in this nation is. As long as you don’t break the law, you can pretty much do anything in the United States of America.

We as a people take way too much for granted. Most people have no idea what our men and women in the armed-forces give up. They are told when and where to be without a say. They eat, sleep and do what they are ordered to do. Many of them are thousands upon thousands of miles away from their families. They give up so much so you and I don’t have to.

Louisville’s Strange Brew wants to say “thank you” to our current men and women who are serving this great nation. We want to thank the veterans who fought or served this great nation. We thank our forefathers who fought and died for our freedoms. America is still the greatest nation on earth and I am proud to be an American.

Real American Hero – Pat Tillman

We live in an age of selfishness. People only care about themselves. It seems the richer people are, the worse they become. Take professional athletes of today. These selfish ego-maniacs who already make millions holdout for even more money, even if it means playing for a losing team. That is the world we live in today.

Pat Tillman was the opposite. He was a star in the NFL making millions. He had chances to leave his team a few times for more money. He did not. Tillman respected his owner, coaches and the fans. After the attacks on 9/11, Tillman left the NFL and joined the Army and became a US Ranger to be with his brother. He gave up his millions, fame and safety to serve America and its freedom.

In 2004, Tillman was killed by “friendly fire”. Tillman, like millions before him, gave up his personal freedom for ours. Tillman, and not these selfish overpaid athletes, is a real role model. He is a true American hero. Tillman is the reason we have the freedoms we do today. Let’s all take the time to thank the men and women who serve our great nation.

Did Dakota Meyer actually save lives? Or is he a fraud?

Full story

Asked by a reporter from McClatchy newspapers about her organization’s investigation — which concluded that “crucial parts of the story of Meyer’s deeds that the Marine Corps publicized and Obama described to the nation are untrue, unsubstantiated or exaggerated” — the White House Thursday stood by the Medal of Honor recipient.

“The president was very proud to present the Medal of Honor to Sergeant Meyer for his extraordinary service in Afghanistan,” White House press secretary Jay Carney said. “As the president said that day, in Sergeant Dakota Meyer we see the best of a generation that has served through a decade of war.”

The McClatchy newspapers story stated that Meyer “didn’t save as many people, kill as many enemy fighters or lead the final push to retrieve his dead comrades, as the record says. Moreover, it’s unclear from the documents whether the 23-year-old Kentucky native disobeyed orders when he entered the Ganjgal Valley on Sept. 8, 2009, as the record says he did.”

Carney said that the White House is not concerned and not looking into the Medal of Honor narrative.

“The answer to your question is no,” he said. “Everyone, even the reporter who wrote yesterday’s article, agrees the Sergeant Meyer displayed extraordinary heroism. Indeed, a subsequent article within, I think, hours by that same reporter last night, makes it clear that Meyer’s comrades feel he deserves the Medal of Honor. President Obama was proud to present it on behalf of a grateful nation.”

The writer, the well-respected Jonathan Landay, did note that, “What’s most striking is that all this probably was unnecessary. Meyer, the 296th Marine to earn the medal, by all accounts deserved his nomination. At least seven witnesses attested to him performing heroic deeds “in the face of almost certain death.”

Carney said “I would refer you to the Marine Corps. And the process of vetting for Medal of Honor — proposed Medal of Honor recipients is, as I understand it, quite extensive and thorough. Obviously that’s done at the Department of Defense and by the branch of the military that’s affected here, in this case the Marine Corps. The president was very proud to present the Medal of Honor to Sergeant Meyer. He was that day and he remains proud today of his extraordinary service.”

The IRA – The Real “Saints” of Ireland

Info taken from here

Northern Ireland came into existence with the British Government of Ireland Act (1920) which divided Ireland into two areas: the Irish Free State, made up of the 26 southern counties, and Northern Ireland – comprising of the counties of Antrim, Down, Armagh, Londonderry, Tyrone and Fermanagh. Roman Catholics, who made up around one-third of the population of Northern Ireland, were largely opposed to the partition.

On 19 July 1997, the IRA declared a cease-fire, effective July 20. At the end of August, the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland announced her finding that the cease-fire was being observed, allowing Sinn Fein, the political party closely identified with the IRA, entry into negotiations on Northern Ireland’s political future. The July 20 cease-fire ended a 17-month terrorism campaign and led to the opening of inclusive political talks in September. Following the cease-fire there was a marked decrease–although not a total cessation–of sectarian violence. Police believe that paramilitary groups in Northern Ireland were responsible for 22 deaths, 251 shootings, and 78 bombings during 1997. Both republican and loyalist paramilitary groups continued to engage in vigilante “punishment” attacks, although there was a decrease in the number of such incidents even before the July cease-fire. Despite the lowering of the overall unemployment rate in Northern Ireland in December 1997 to 7.8 per cent, the unemployment rate for Catholic men in Northern Ireland remained twice that for Protestant men. Sinn Fin is the oldest political party in Ireland, named from the Irish Gaelic expression for “We Ourselves”. Since being founded in 1905 it has worked for the right of Irish people as a whole to attain national self-determination, and has elected representatives in every major Irish town and city.

Description

Formed in 1969 as the clandestine armed wing of the political movement Sinn Fein, the IRA is devoted both to removing British forces from Northern Ireland and to unifying Ireland. The IRA conducted attacks until its cease-fire in 1997 and agreed to disarm as a part of the 1998 Belfast Agreement, which established the basis for peace in Northern Ireland. Dissension within the IRA over support for the Northern Ireland peace process resulted in the formation of two more radical splinter groups: Continuity IRA (CIRA), and the Real IRA (RIRA) in mid to late 1990s. The IRA, sometimes referred to as the PIRA to distinguish it from RIRA and CIRA, is organized into small, tightly-knit cells under the leadership of the Army Council.

Activities

Traditional IRA activities have included bombings, assassinations, kidnappings, punishment beatings, extortion, smuggling, and robberies. Before the cease-fire in 1997, the group had conducted bombing campaigns on various targets in Northern Ireland and Great Britain, including senior British Government officials, civilians, police, and British military targets. The groups refusal in late 2004 to allow photographic documentation of its decommissioning process was an obstacle to progress in implementing the Belfast Agreement and stalled talks. The group previously had disposed of light, medium, and heavy weapons, ammunition, and explosives in three rounds of decommissioning. However, the IRA is believed to retain the ability to conduct paramilitary operations. The groups extensive criminal activities reportedly provide the IRA and the political party Sinn Fein with millions of dollars each year; the IRA was implicated in two significant robberies in 2004, one involving almost $50 million.

Strength

Several hundred members, plus several thousand sympathizersdespite the defection of some members to RIRA and CIRA.

Local/Area of Operation

Northern Ireland, Irish Republic, Great Britain, Europe.

External Aid

In the past, has received aid from a variety of groups and countries and considerable training and arms from Libya and the PLO. Is suspected of receiving funds, arms, and other terrorist-related materiel from sympathizers in the United States. Similarities in operations suggest links to ETA and the FARC. In August 2002, three suspected IRA members were arrested in Colombia on charges of assisting the FARC to improve its explosives capabilities.

Song lyrics to Go On Home British Soldiers –

Go on home British Soldiers Go on home
Have you got no fucking homes of your own
For 800 years we’ve fought you without fear
And we will fight you for 800 more

If you stay British Soldiers If you stay
You’ll never ever beat the IRA
For the 14 men in Derry
Are the last that you will bury
So take a tip And leave us bloody be

So Go on home British Soldiers Go on home
Have you got no fucking homes of your own
For 800 years we’ve fought you without fear
And we will fight you for 800 more

We’re not British, we’re not Saxon we’re not English
We’re Irish and proud we are to be
So fuck your Union Jack We want our country back
We want to see old Ireland free once more

So Go on home British Soldiers Go on home
Have you got no fucking homes of your own
For 800 years we’ve fought you without fear
And we will fight you for 800 more

We’ll fight them British Soldiers for the cause
We’ll never bow to Soldiers because
Throughout our history We were born to be free
So get out British bastards leave us be

So Go on home British Soldiers Go on home
Have you got no fucking homes of your own
For 800 years we’ve fought you without fear
And we will fight you for 800 more

Go on home British Soldiers Go on home
Have you got no fucking homes of your own
For 800 years we’ve fought you without fear
And we will fight you for 800 more
