I am up to 12 tattoos now. My first one was done at Body Art Emporium. The tattoo was done by an artist named Billy Noel. It was a simple little dragon design, but I liked the way it looked. I got it done on my right arm. That one didn’t hurt that bad. I actually couldn’t believe how much it didn’t hurt. Since then I have gotten others on my arms in the bicep region, my legs and my back. Those did hurt. In some cases they have hurt badly.
I use to get all my work done at Body Art Emporium. Billy Noel did three of my first four tattoos. A guy known as “Boomer” did my Homer Simpson tattoo, which still has a nice shade of yellow to it, proving he knows what he’s doing. The owner died and the place just isn’t the same. I got two more done there and because of the shitty service, I stopped getting tattoos for a few years.
A few years back Billy Noel and a friend of his, Brandon Blair decided to work for themselves and open up their own shop. That shop is known as “The Hornet’s Nest Elite Art Studio”. Billy also brought along Boomer of Body Art Emporium to work on his staff. After seeing some great work done on a bartender friend named Sheila, I was motivated to get tatted some more. So I gave the Hornet’s Nest a try.
As soon as I walked in I was warmly greeted by three employees. I showed them my design, the UK logo. One of the guys working there said he would draw it up and we would go from there. He showed me the design he drew up and I agreed that it would do. Come to find out, Brandon Blair, one of the co-owners was the man that did my tattoo. More recently he just finished a much smaller piece, the Celtic Trinity symbol on my left arm. Both tattoos came out exactly the way I wanted them to.

My friend Steve saw my UK tattoo and liked the excellent work he saw. He went a few days later to get a cover-up. He had some words from his younger days covered up with a Panther’s head. Even though the tattoo wasn’t my thing, it looks great. It was done by a female artist named
Lissa Guerrero. She did an excellent job covering up the words. You can’t even tell the tattoo is a cover-up. It looks original.

Billy Noel and a few of the artists there are currently in Florida trying out for Dave Navarro’s “Ink Master”. As of right now, all of them have passed the first stage of the contest. Not bad considering that thousands upon thousands of tattoo artists from all over the US and the world are trying out for this show. That alone speaks volumes about the quality of work that The Hornet’s Nest does. WHAS also named them “Best Tattoo Shop” in Louisville.
The Hornet’s Nest doesn’t just do tattoos. They also have a woman named Tammi that does piercings. I’m not going to lie; I know nothing about her work. By judging the great work of the tattoo artists there, I’m guessing she knows her craft well. I don’t picture this shop not hiring the best of the best. Their prices are more than reasonable. They are equal to almost any shop I know of in Louisville.
If you are looking for your first tattoo, The Hornet’s Nest would be a great place. Why get below average work done when you can start off getting the best done? If you need some older tattoos reworked on this would be a great place. I can judge that by the cover-up work they did on my friend Steve. Or if you simply want a new tattoo shop to get work done at, this would be your best bet.
