LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) — It’s a story of lies and betrayal — a well-known Louisville DJ turned into a con man, stealing thousands of dollars and faking a disease he never had.

Just months after he was released from prison, Todd Smith, once known as Todd Kelly, broke his silence exclusively to WDRB News.

Todd Smith is getting a second chance many of his victims will not. He was freed from prison just four months ago after serving four years behind bars at Fort Dix in New Jersey.

When asked what prison was like, he replied, “It was difficult because you’re around people you don’t know.  Some are there for harsher crimes, some for less.  You have to learn to adjust and I did…It was a learning experience, made me appreciate life and what I had before I went in.”

That included a job as the promotions director and DJ known as Todd Kelly at WDJX Radio. In 2001, he announced he was stricken with a deadly disease — ALS.  Also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, it gradually robs its victims of the ability to move, and eventually to breathe.

He soon started the Todd Kelly Foundation to raise money for research. But suspicion grew when Smith showed no symptoms after several years.  He eventually admitted he faked having the disease, and that the foundation was a scam.  He pleaded guilty to stealing from people who thought they were donating money to help cure a killer disease.

“I guess it’s greed,” he says.  “It’s just at that point thinking about myself, and that’s the hardest part because I care for others.”

He continues, “It just happened.  It just sort of, it was there and it was easy.  I can’t explain it.  It wasn’t premeditated…It’s almost like when you’re told not to take a cookie out of the cookie jar and you take one and you like it so then you go back and take another and another and it just spiraled out of control.”

Smith used the donated money for vacations, alcohol, limos, meals at restaurants, and bills but wouldn’t discuss the details.

“Some of the money,” he says, “did go directly to ALS and some things went to cancer stuff, but it didn’t go where it should have went and should have gone to ALS, and I take responsibility for that.  That was my fault, and it just was used for other things….It just went for myself basically.  When you start doing it, you start paying for this, paying for that.”

Smith says a muscular disease that contributed to his father’s death is part of why he chose to fake ALS, a similar disease:  “I think because part of it was because of my Dad.  He had Guillain–Barré — it wasn’t the same thing, but along the same lines….That’s where I went wrong.  I should have done it the right way and raised awareness for that.”

Yet the fucking news’ crews could care less.  Their only concern was higher ratings, which channel could get the best film of a tornado or the best interview.

Kentucky to expand Gambling – Yet Strippers can’t be nude

(AP)  FRANKFORT, Ky. — Gov. Steve Beshear presented a plan Tuesday to amend Kentucky’s Constitution to allow up to seven casinos to open in the state, most of them at horse tracks.The proposal generated instant opposition in the Bible-belt state where betting on horse races is a long-held tradition but where casinos have been unwelcome.

For years, proposals to expand gambling opportunities have been debated in Kentucky, but have never been able to get through the House and Senate.

“We believe that we have fashioned something that could and should and hopefully will pass both chambers,” the Democratic governor said Tuesday.

Republican Sen. Damon Thayer of Georgetown will sponsor legislation that would begin the process of amending the Constitution. If approved by lawmakers, the proposal would be placed on the ballot in November to be ratified or rejected by voters.

“The issue of expanded gambling, after nearly two decades of debate, has reached a tipping point,” Beshear said. “Recently, the people of this state were polled by two separate organizations, including the state Republican Party. Both surveys found that more than 80 percent of the people of this state, regardless of whether they support expanded gambling or are against it, want the right to vote on it. The question is simple: Do we as leaders listen to our people or do we ignore them?”

Despite the long history of wagering on horses, Kentucky’s constitution frowns on casino-style gambling. And many Kentucky lawmakers have been reluctant to vote to change it, knowing they may face un-approving constituents in upcoming legislative elections.

To get through the General Assembly, the proposal has to be approved by a supermajority of lawmakers. That means 23 of the state’s 38 senators and 60 of the 100 representatives must vote in favor.

Beshear said Kentuckians now are wagering hundreds of millions of dollars in casinos in neighboring states.

In the past we have bad mouth the guys at Kentucky Sports Radio. Even though Bourbon, a die-hard UK dislikes most of their opinions, he never doubts their loyalty toward UK. New Black Panthers reject my membership application

I recently sent in an application to the New Black Panther Party of Louisville. I was sad to see my application was rejected. They never even called me back. I am not sure why. I love fried chicken, white women and the NBA. I have black friends. I am heartbroken to say the least.

When I saw the news story about the New Black Panthers I was totally shocked. What purpose do they serve in the year 2012 (was 2011 then)? Black people have the same rights that I (whitey) do. America has come a long way since the 1960’s.

I believe in Freedom of Speech. I have no issue in the New Black Panthers. If they want to waste their time blaming me for being white, hey, I’m all for it. At least blame me for my true wrong doings. I’m not against your right to vote, make money or be educated. If anything, blame me for all the Malt Liquor I drink weekly. This cracker loves downing your Colt 45 and King Cobra.

To get an idea of what they want, I went to their website. Okay, their Myspace page. Yes, whitey is keeping the New Black Panthers of owning a website. Instead, they use Myspace. The Myspace page can be found here – New Black Panthers Louisville Chapter. Here is what they want according to them. Below their comments will be in black bold, while my two cents will be under it.

1. We want freedom. We want the power to practice self-determination, and to determine the destiny of our community and THE BLACK NATION. We believe in the spiritual high moral code of our Ancestors. We believe in the truths of the Bible, Quran, and other sacred texts and writings. We believe in MAAT and the principles of NGUZO SABA. We believe that Black People will not be free until we are able to determine our Divine Destiny.

Me – You are free. How many of you are slaves? The only people not free in this nation are prisoners. You do have the power to practice “black power” or NGUZO SABA. Are you in jail for your Myspace page? I didn’t think so.

 2. We want full employment for our people and we demand the dignity to do for ourselves what we have begged the white man to do for us. We believe that since the white man has kept us deaf, dumb and blind, and used every “dirty trick” in the book to stand in the way of our freedom and independence, that we should be gainfully employed until such time we can employ and provide for ourselves. We believe further in: POWER IN THE HANDS OF THE PEOPLE! WEALTH IN THE HANDS OF THE PEOPLE! ARMS IN THE HANDS OF THE PEOPLE!

Me – Then get a job. Let’s time I checked history (and common sense), nearly 400,000 white men died to free you in this nation. Beg the white man? Hell I have to beg you black men to let me be your teammate when I wanna play a game of basketball at the nearby park.

3. We want tax exemption and an end to robbery of THE BLACK NATION by the CAPITALIST. We want an end to the capitalistic domination of Africa in all of its forms: imperialism, criminal settler colonialism, neo-colonialism, racism, sexism, zionism, Apartheid and artificial borders. We believe that this wicked racist government has robbed us, and now we are demanding the overdue debt of reparations. A form of reparations was promised 100 years ago (forty acres and a mule) as restitution for the continued genocide of our people and to in meaningful measure and repair the damage for the AFRICAN HOLOCAUST (Maangamizo/Maafa). We believe our people should be exempt from ALL TAXATION as long as we are deprived of equal justice under the laws of the land and the overdue reparations debt remains unpaid. We will accept payment in fertile and mine rally rich land, precious metals, industry, commerce and currency. As genocide crimes continue, people’s tribunals must be set up to prosecute and to execute. The “Jews” were given reparations. The Japanese were given reparations. The Black, the Red and the Brown Nations must be given reparations. The American white man owes us reparations. England owes us reparations. France owes us reparations, Spain and all of Europe. Africa owes us reparations and repatriation. The Arabs owe us reparations. The “Jews” owe us reparations. All have taken part in the AFRICAN HOLOCAUST and the slaughter of 600 million of our people over the past 6,000 years in general and 400 year in particular. We know that this is a reasonable and just demand that we make at this time in history.

Me – Besides blaming the Jews for everything, I agree with some of this. No innocent person should be murdered for sport. Sadly, it’s not the Jews or uncle whitey killing blacks in Africa; it’s your own people doing the killing. I am all for aiding any effort of stopping genocide of any person, religious group or race.

4. We want decent housing, fit for shelter of human beings, free health-care (preventive and maintenance). We want an end to the trafficking of drugs and to the biological and chemical warfare targeted at our people. We believe since the white landlords will not give decent housing and quality health care to our Black Community, the he housing, the land, the social, political and economic institutions should be made into independent UUAMAA “New African Communal/Cooperatives” so that our community, with government reparations and aid (until we can do for ourselves) can build and make drug free, decent housing with health facilities for our people.

Me – I am for the good of all PEOPLE – white, black, Asian, Jew, Arab, Mexican and ect, ect….

5. We want education for our people that exposes the true nature of this devilish and decadent American society. We want education that teaches us our true history/herstory and our role in the present day society. We believe in an educational system that will give our people “a knowledge of self.” If we do not have knowledge of self and of our position in society and the world, then we have little chance to properly relate to anything else.

Me – Then stop promoting gangster rap music and thug athletes as role models.

6. We want all Black Men and Black Women to be exempt from military service. We believe that Black People should not be forced to fight in the military service to defend a racist government that holds us captive and does not protect us. We will not fight and kill other people of color in the world who, like Black People, are being victimized by the white racist government of America. We will protect ourselves from the force and violence of the racist police and the racist military, “by any means necessary.”

Me – Wow, what a lack of brains. So the 400,000 white men who died for the Union to free you died for what? I agree, I hate when white cops pull me over due to my Indiana tags, racist hillbilly white redneck crackers!

7. We want an immediate end to POLICE HARRASSMENT, BRUTALITY and MURDER of Black People. We want an end to Black-on-Black violence, “snitching,” cooperation and collaboration with the oppressor. We believe we can end police brutality in our community by organizing Black self-defense groups (Black People’s Militias/Black Liberation Armies) that are dedicated to defending our Black Community from racist, fascist, police/military oppression and brutality. The Second Amendment of white America’s Constitution gives a right to bear arms. We therefore believe that all Black People should unite and form and “African United Front” and arm ourselves for self-defense.

Me – The police should never harass anyone, no matter the color. Police murder and brutality of any sort can not and should not, be tolerated. All people have the rights of “self-defense”, ask Bourbon Stilz; a total nut-job when it comes to gun rights.

8. We want freedom for all Black Men and Black Women held in international, military, federal, state, county, city jails and prisons. We believe that all Black People and people of color should be released from the many jails and prisons because they have not received a fair and impartial trial. ‘Released’ means ‘released’ to the lawful authorities of the Black Nation.

Me – What about the Asian locked up for no reason? Or the innocent Jew that was locked up? Do we keep them in jail and only free the black “victims”. That makes no sense.

9. We want all Black People when brought to trial to be tried in a court by a jury of their peer group or people from their Black Communities, as defined by white law of the Constitution of the United States. We believe that the courts should follow their own law, if their nature will allow (as stated in their Constitution of the United States) so that Black People will receive fair trials. The 6th Amendment of the United States Constitution gives a man/woman a right to an impartial trial, which has been interpreted to be a “fair” trial by one’s “peer” group. A “peer” is a person from a similar economic, social, religious, geographical, environmental, historical and racial background. To do this, the court will be forced to select a jury from the Black Community from which the Black defendant came. We have been and are being tried by all white juries that have no understanding of the “average reasoning person” of the Black Community.

Me – Yawn, yawn. Didn’t white people help free black people in this country? What about whites who were slaves? Somone needs another history lesson.

10. WE DEMAND AN END TO THE RACIST DEATH PENALTY AS IT IS APPLIED TO BLACK AND OPPRESSED PEOPLE IN AMERICA. WE DEMAND FREEDOM FOR ALL POLITICAL PRISONERS OF THE BLACK RED AND BROWN NATION! We want land, bread, housing, education, clothing, justice and peace. And, as our political objective, we want NATIONAL LIBERATION in a separate state or territory of our own, here or elsewhere, “a liberated zone” (“New Africa” or Africa), and a plebiscite to be held throughout the BLACK NATION in which only we will be allowed to participate for the purposes of determining our will and DIVINE destiny as a people. FREE THE LAND! “UP YOU MIGHTY NATION! YOU CAN ACCOMPLISH WHAT YOU WILL!” BLACK POWER! History has proven that the white man is absolutely disagreeable to get along with in peace. No one has been able to get along with the white man. All the people of color have been subjected to the white man’s wrath. We believe that his very nature will not allow for true sharing, fairness, equity and justice. Therefore, to the Red Man and Woman, to the Yellow and to the Brown, we say to you “THE SAME RABID DOG THAT BIT YOU, BIT US TOO!” ALL POWER TO THE PEOPLE!

Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio – disgrace to real fans

I don’t know Matt Jones who runs Kentucky Sports Radio. He seems like a nice person. Jones graduated from Duke believe it or not. However, he remained loyal to UK. So I don’t doubt his loyalty what so ever. But Jones and the majority of his followers at Kentucky Sports Radio are exactly what are wrong with sports fans. Just read over the daily comments left over there if you don’t believe me.

Jones and his followers believe UK can do no wrong. When UK loses they always find an excuse for it. When they win it’s always a major victory. They also overrate every move UK makes and underrate all of UK’s opponents. At times I wonder is the website actually satire or are these people serious… or that dumb?

Reading comments prior to the IU game was pure laughter. People claimed UK would win by as much as 40. For a week every other post was nearly one attacking IU and their fans. I agree that IU fans are a racist joke. But IU was no joke. I actually told people that UK would have a hard game against IU. When UK lost the people at Kentucky Sports Radio had every excuse in the book. Sad to say, but the IU fans got the last laugh.

I can’t stand U of L’s fan base. They are a joke and probably the most fair-weather fan base in the nation. But when U of L is good, I’ll be the first to admit it. Their basketball team is no joke this year. They deserve to be ranked as high as they are. Read Kentucky Sports Radio. They make it seem at least 30-40 teams are better than U of L. Give me a break. I’m a hardcore UK fan, but really? U of L is undefeated and UK isn’t. End of debate!

When UK hired John Calipari, Jones and his fans cheered it on like it was a blessing. Here is a scumbag that had two Final Fours taken down at two different schools. A man that has dozens upon dozens of wins erased.  As a UK fan, I love to win more than anybody. But I like to win the right way, not the Eddie Sutton way. Debate all you want. There’s no difference in Calipari and Sutton. But are cheaters and pieces of shit that lack class.

Listen, my friends over at Kentucky Sports Radio. I respect your passion and love for UK. I’ve spent many hours watching their games with my father, a UK fan. Nobody has more love for UK than I do. But let’s start being realistic and use some common sense. Let’s stop crying about losing to Duke in 1992, hating Pitino because he moved on and the fact we suck in football. That’s life. Nobody is out to get us. Start acting like dedicated fans and not complete nut-cases.
