Are guns really that dangerous?

Full story here

A popular message circulating the internet claims that “guns don’t kill people, doctors do,” based on statistics that theoretically show that doctors are responsible for more accidental deaths every year than firearms. Independent research by NaturalNews staff shows that this claim is based on a logical fallacy of comparing apples and oranges, but according to the hard statistics, doctors do indeed kill more people than guns.

The message, which sometimes says that doctors kill more people than guns and traffic accidents combined, has been circulating the internet for years. Like many urban legends that cross the internet, it has a lot of “facts” for its readers, but it is unlike most urban legends in that it quotes a source: “Statistics provided by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.” The message was even recounted in an article by Nathan Tabor. The letter claims that:

— There are 700,000 physicians in the United States.
— There are 120,000 accidental deaths in the United States caused by physicians every year, and the accidental death percentage per physician is 0.171.
— There are 80 million gun owners in the United States.
— There are 1,500 accidental deaths from guns every year, regardless of age group, and the accidental death percentage per gun owner is 0.0000188.

This means, the letter points out, that doctors are 9,000 times more deadly than gun owners.

Tabor’s reason for pointing out these statistics seems to be the endorsement of second amendment rights, but the stats have turned the heads of many people, regardless of their stance on gun control. The claim has been reprinted across the internet on sites such as Rense.com, and other sites that warn of the dangers of modern medicine. NaturalNews staff members were unable to find DHHS figures that either supported or debunked the urban legend’s claims. Such figures are hard to compare anyway, as the internet anti-chain-letter site BreakTheChain.org points out with responses gathered from the public:

— Most people see doctors when their health is already poor, so that has to be considered a factor in any doctor-related deaths, accidental or otherwise.
— Some people will never interact with a gun in their lifetime, but very few people will never see a doctor. This means that doctors could be more lethal simply due to a greater chance of public exposure to them.

As you can see, the doubts raised by these factors mean the statistics cannot be fairly compared, however NaturalNews’s stance is that conventional medicine is still one of the top causes of death in the United States. Specifically, information obtained by Death by Medicine shows that an estimated 106,000 people die from adverse drug effects — from properly prescribed drugs — every year, and approximately 98,000 die annually from some sort of error by medical staff. Compare this to statistics from the Department of Justice and the U.S. Centers for Disease control for the year 2004, which show an estimated 16,137 people were victims of homicide (not just firearm murders) in the United States.

Most people can agree that doctors and guns can both be lethal. But comparing doctor deaths with gun deaths seems odd. For one thing, the intention is different. Doctors are usually trying to save patients, not kill them. Violent criminals who might use guns in committing a crime, however, often do have the intention of causing physical harm. Doctors may be dangerous through their ignorance or incompetence, but they are not actually out to kill anyone.

Irish History #19

The second republican to join the H-Block hunger-strike for political status – a fortnight after Bobby Sands – was twenty-five-year-old Francis Hughes, from Bellaghy in South Derry: a determined, committed and totally fearless IRA Volunteer who organised a spectacularly successful series of military operations before his capture, and was once described by the RUC as their ‘most wanted man’ in the North.

Eluding for several years the relentless efforts of the British army, UDR and RUC to track him down, Francis operated boldly throughout parts of Tyrone and north and south Antrim, but particularly in his native South Derry, with a  combination of brilliant organisation and extreme daring – until his capture after a shoot-out with the SAS – which earned him widespread popular renown, and won general support for the republican cause, as well as giving him an undisputed reputation as a natural-born soldier and leader.

ROOTED

Francis Hughes was born on February 28th, 1956, the youngest son amongst ten children, into a staunchly republican family which has been solidly rooted, for most of this century, in the townland of Tamlaghtduff, or Scribe Road, as it is otherwise called.

His parents who married in 1939, are Patrick Joseph Hughes, aged 72, a retired small cattle farmer born in the neighbouring town land of Ballymacpeake, and Margaret, aged 68, whose maiden name is McElwee, and who was born in Tamlaghtduff.

A quarter-of-a-mile away from the Hughes’ bungalow, on the other side of the Scribe Road is the home of Thomas and Benedict McElwee – first cousins of Francis. Benedict is currently serving a sentence in the H-Blocks. Thomas – the eldest – embarked on hunger strike on June 8th, and died sixty-two days later on August 8th.

In Tamlaghtduff, as throughout the rest of Bellaghy, sympathy as well as active support for the republican cause runs at a very high level, a fact testified to by the approximately twenty prisoners-of-war from around Bellaghy alone.

Francis was an extremely popular person, both to his family and to his republican colleagues and supporters.

His father recalls that as a boy he was always whistling, joking and singing: a trait which he carried over into his arduous and perilous days as a republican, when he was able to transmit his enthusiasm and optimism both to Volunteers under his command and to Sympathisers who offered them – at great personal risk, food and shelter

It was qualities like these, of uncomplaining tirelessness, of consideration for the morale of those around him, and his ruling wish to lead by example, that have made Francis Hughes one of the most outstanding Irish revolutionary soldiers this war has produced and a man who was enormously respected in his native countryside.

BOY

As a boy, Francis went first to St. Mary’s primary school in Bellaghy, and from there to Clady intermediate school three miles away.

He enjoyed school and was a fairly good student whose favourite subjects were history and woodwork. He was not particularly interested in sport, but was very much a lively, outdoor person, who enjoyed messing around on bikes, and later on, in cars.

He enjoyed dancing and regularly went to ceilidh as a young man, even while ‘on the run’, although after ‘wanted’ posters of him appeared his opportunities became less frequent.

His parents recall that Francis was always extremely helpful around the house, and that he was a “good tractor man”.

DECORATOR

Leaving school at sixteen, Francis got a job with his sister Vera’s husband, as an apprentice painter and decorator, completing his apprenticeship shortly before ‘going on the run’.

In later days, Francis would often do a spot of decorating for the people whose house he was staying in

On one occasion, shortly after the ‘wanted’ posters of him had been posted up all over South Derry, Francis was painting window frames at the front of the house he was staying in when two jeep-loads of British soldiers drove past. While the other occupants of the house froze in apprehension, Francis waved and smiled at the curious Brits as they passed by, and continued painting.

It was such utter fearlessness, and the ability to brazen his way through that saved him time and time again during his relatively long career as an active service Volunteer.

On one such occasion, when stopped along with two other Volunteers as they crossed a field, Francis told a Brit patrol that they didn’t feel safe walking the roads, as the IRA were so active in the area. The Brits allowed the trio to walk on, but after a few yards Francis ran back to the enemy patrol to scrounge a cigarette and a match from one of the British soldiers.

A turning point for Francis, in terms of his personal involvement in the struggle, occurred at the age of seventeen, when he and a friend were stopped by British soldiers at Ardboe, in County Tyrone, as they returned from a dance one night.

The pair were taken out of their car and so badly kicked that Francis was bed-ridden for several days. Rejecting advice to make a complaint to the RUC, Francis said it would be a waste of time, but pledged instead to get even with those who had done it, “or with their friends.”

Sandy Hook was a hoax – give me a break

It was just a matter of time a group of losers came up with the idea that Sandy Hook was a hoax. These same losers beat the 9/11 cover-up in the ground and nobody cares. So they had to come up with something new. Sadly, they took the murders of 27 people, 20 being children and are blaming Obama that it never took place. How insane can people be?

I am not even going to debate this rubbish. I am going to post some of their “debate” below and let you read it. While they do a decent job making their idiotic points, they prove nothing. We still had 27 confirmed dead bodies and reports from real parents, real teachers, real kids, real medical examiners and real police that they shooting did take place. Read the believe hoax rant and let me know what you think.

Taken from this dumb website

Fact # 1: There was at least 2 or 3 shooters that were also in the Sandy Hook school with Adam Lanza . Some of the video was shown on television but only 1 time and have never aired again.

Fact # 2: The medical examiner claimed that the children were killed with the rifle. But the rifle was found in the truck of a  Adam Lanza car. So who did all the shooting if the rifle was in the trunk of a car?  and why would  the medical examiner say that the children were killed with the rifle ?

Fact # 3: Emily Parker’s  dad was laughing and smiling right before he gave an official interview on CNN. Let me ask you a question if you lost a child would you be laughing and smiling  24 hours after the death of your loved one?

Fact # 4: Who created the Emily Parker Fan page  on Dec 14th just a few hours before the shooting. I just want to know what kind of a person makes a Facebook Fund Page while their child in in the school on a lock-down yet they still didn’t know the condition of their daughter? she was not even confirmed dead yet…. i smell BS

Fact # 5: Why are all the parents in the interviews are either smiling or have a guilty smirk on their faces days after their children were killed? is that an act of a grieving parent or an actor?

Fact # 6:  This is a REAL Site !!!

Fact # 7: Very strange behavior of the Medical Examiner ( he seems more of an actor then a medical examiner) he seems to find the situation quiet funny.

Fact # 8: What do September 11th  and 7 July 2005 London bombings  and Sandy Hook shooting have in common?

Fact # 9: Victoria Soto Facebook Page was created 4 days before the Sandy Hook shooting. Also “Our Heart are with Sandy Hook” was created 3 days before the shooting. The website “Sandy Hook Elementary Victims Fund” was created 1 days before the Sandy Hook shooting.  Seems as if someone had an open window into the future or this was all pre-planned and people were putting pages up not realizing that it can be traced  back to the creation date of the Facebook page and the  Sandy Hook Heart website. As a professional blogger i know how to trace back dates of origin of a website, its what bloggers do, that is why they want to silence the internet, they do not want people picking up their mistakes and then presenting it to the whole world discrediting the news lies and media deception. Remember if they can controlled what people watch and read and make people feel something that is not true  is called mind control & deception and  people are being controlled with fear and disgusting lies. Why do you think everyday at 5 pm across U.S.A  all the news media run the same top 5 stories ? It does not matter if you are watch NBC, ABC, or CBS, all the top 5 to 7 stories happen to be the same. Its like their are controlling the media instead of giving people the real true stories that are happening across the globe.

Fact # 10:  Media frenzy to ban all guns across the U.S.A destroying the 2nd Constitutional Amendment. I mean lets really think about this one it is the most important one. If our 2nd Constitutional amendment is banned what is next destroying the 1st Constitutional amendment “Freedom of Speech” ?  and what is next this country turning into a socialist or a communist regime. As i write this article it makes me feel as if this country was the last place for freedom of speech and now that also seems to be under threat. I have spend my first 10 years of my life raised in Russia in a big city of St. Petersburg  i know how it is to live in a country where the government tells you what to read, what to watch, and not to speak against any corruption of the government of you get send up to Siberia for a 10 year vacation that many do not come back from. My father spend 7 years in jail for speaking out against the corrupt x Soviet Government and in the middle of the night KGB broke down the door and arrested him. So you don’t have to tell me about freedom i lived it and seen it first hand.

Houses of the Holy (Led Zeppelin – 1973)

The Song Remains the Same – Different year, the same old bullshit. Obama, our president, already lied and raised taxes on the working man. Anti-gun people are still crying about the Sandy Hook shooting even though a criminal and not a legal gun owner committed the crime. Every slut I know is still a slut. One loser I know is still a criminal and due in court again in 2013.

Over the Hills and Far Away – How I wish I had a pocket full of gold. This past weekend I did a lot of daydreaming. I thought about certain things I did wrong in life. Nothing I can do now but it makes you think. Thought of my ex Ashley who I’ve not seen in years. I came across a CD she had made me and thought of her all day Sunday.

Dancing Days – They say white people can’t dance. Personally, I hate dancing. Don’t let that fool you. I can bust a move or two. I don’t dance to that shitty hip hop or techno shit. On my birthday my friend Stephanie was making me dance. We tore that dance floor up.

The Ocean – I was watching the History Channel a few days ago. They were showing natural disasters. Most were hurricanes, tidal wives and tsunamis. I kept thinking to myself, maybe living on the beach near the ocean isn’t so cool after all. I rather live where I do, hundreds of miles from the ocean. Just saying.

Time to buy more guns and shells

I am so sick of the gun debate. Guns don’t kill people. Criminals kill people. Thousands of people are killed yearly by drunk drivers. Do we ban beer, bourbon and whiskey? Of course we don’t. Hundreds of people yearly are killed by deer while driving. Have we banned deer from this nation? Hundreds of people yearly are killed by tornadoes. Do we not allow people to live in Kansas, Texas and Nebraska which is in the heart of tornado alley? Of course we don’t.

When people bitch and moan about guns, I have a simple concept, I buy more guns and ammunition. I never preach to people about owning guns. Most gun owners could care less if you own one or not. Why is it then that anti-gun people love to preach to me, my dad and my boss why we shouldn’t have a gun? Just because you don’t want to defend yourself, your loved ones or home don’t tell me I can’t.  Below is my list dedicated toward guns.

That’s right kids, guns are cool. If you have a gun, hot chicks like this will want you. Guns are great. Police use them to stop bad people. People use them to hunt and feed their families. Our armed-forces use them to free those who are oppressed. People like me use them to defend my property, defend myself if I’m ever attacked by someone with a weapon or defend someone I care about. Guns are so cool, Clint Eastwood has used them in the mass majority of his movies.

Guns – I love them

A bunch of morons in LA gave up their guns for cash. Around the USA we see this from time to time. A city/county will have a “Cash for Gun” day. They use propaganda to convince law-abiding citizens to give up their legally bought weapons. Sadly, most of these “Cash for Gun” days are successful. Guns do not murder people. Stupid losers murder people.

I have come to realize that most anti-gun people know nothing at all about guns. They have never seen one up close, have no clue on how to load or fire one and couldn’t tell you the difference between a .38 special or a SKS. All of a sudden however, they become experts on guns and gun laws. I actually got in a debate with my friend Emily this past Sunday. Like most anti-gun people, she said things that were beyond inaccurate about guns and knew nothing about guns. Those are very common traits among anti-gun people.

Most school shootings are done by kids that are underage. This means that the weapons they carry are bought illegally or have been stolen. How often have legal gun owners walked into a school and shot it up? Look at Sandy Hook which just happened. The punk was carrying two handguns. He was only 20 which means he was carrying the guns illegally. The other gun was not his which meant it was stolen. Not shocking that a criminal was breaking the law. His mother, who did own the guns legally, was not the crazy gunman. Shocking that a law-abiding citizen was not the killer.

My friend Emily, like most anti-gun people stated that only law enforcement officials should be allowed to carry guns. That is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard about guns. My uncle George is retired from the US Army. He was a Green Beret (specials forces). Are you telling me that my uncle George has no right to carry a gun and defend himself, his family and his home? My uncle George, like all vets, has proven his loyalty and love for this nation. They have earned every right known to man and then some. How dare anyone insult a vet by telling them they can’t own weapons.

My dad is almost 80. He has owned guns since age 5 or 6. When my dad was in better health, he hunted. You know how many banks my dad robbed, women he raped at gunpoint, people he’s taken hostage, schools he shot up, cars he hijacked or people he’s murdered? The number is less than one. That’s correct. My dad has never committed a crime with a gun. You know why? He’s not a criminal. He’s not crazy. He’s a law-abiding citizen. Also, my dad is a vet. I think my dad has more than earned his right to carry any type of gun he wants. Who is Emily, some stupid congressman or loser to tell my dad he has no right to carry a gun?

I am 31. I grew up around shotguns and rifles. By the time I was 5 or 6, my dad would allow me to help clean his guns. I learned at an early age that guns were not bad. I learned that guns protect people and are used for hunting (food in our case). I own a few myself. I carry a handgun for self-defense. I have never fired the gun in public. Hopefully I will never have to fire the gun. However, if someone tries to car-jack me, attacks me or breaks in my home, I will fire without a second thought. You know how many crimes I’ve committed with my guns? None. Shocking that between me and my dad, not one crime has been committed with our firearms. Yet only law enforcement should own guns.

Gun laws do not stop crime. The US has passed more and more gun laws since the Clinton days. Has crime went down? Of course not. England has some of the strictest gun laws on earth and yet, their crime has increased heavily in the past decade. Switzerland has probably the most laid back laws when it comes to guns and yet, they are one of the most crime free nations on earth. So, more gun laws in the US equals more crime. More gun laws in England equals more crime. Less gun laws in Switzerland equals less crime. Man, those anti-gun people sure know facts when dealing with guns, lol.

Laws are a good thing. I respect most current gun laws. More laws will not stop crime, ask England. Taking away guns will not stop crime. Ask the state of Illinois. If law-abiding citizens can’t own firearms, who will have guns other than law enforcement? Simple, criminals. If I can’t own a firearm, how do I protect myself from a criminal? I rest my case. There is no need for a debate. Anti-gun people know nothing about guns and they should keep their mouths shut when dealing with guns and gun laws. If you went to a dentist, would you allow him to perform open-heart surgery on you? He’s a doctor just like the surgeon is. I’m guessing not. Here’s my point – why do anti-gun people who know nothing about guns all of a sudden become experts on guns? My point exactly.
