Top 5 Best Beer Spots in Louisville

  1. The Irish Rover – The Rover normally keeps 11 beers on tap, with 8-9 being excellent. They also have a great bottle selection that regulars like I know about.

  1. Holy Grail – While not a friendly bunch (they all think they are beer experts), the bar has a great selection of beer.

  1. Bluegrass Brewing Company – All the beer is locally made and fresh. They change beers throughout the year while always keeping the best such as their Bourbon Barrel.

  1. Flanagan’s Alehouse – Excellent selection of draft and a never ending selection of bottled beers.

  1. Sergio’s World Beers – At least 1100 different beers in-stock at any given time. What more needs to be said?

Top 5 Bars to grab a Whiskey (Bourbon, American Whiskey, Scotch or Irish Whiskey)

  1. Brown Hotel – They always keep a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle in stock. Made me a believer!

  1. Galt House – Over priced, but a beautiful bar with a nice selection.

  1. The Bristol – They cater to the “tourist” crowd and keep a nice selection of the “good stuff”.

  1. Bourbon Bristol – Probably the best selection of Bourbon in town, hence the name. I rate them second because a bartender admitted they jack the prices because “people are willing to pay it.”

  1. The Irish Rover – While I love Bourbon, being a Kentucky Native myself, I enjoy Irish Whiskey and Scotch more. Nobody locally has a better Irish Whiskey selection and very few can rival Mr. Reidy’s Scotch selection.

Top 5 Best Sandwiches in Louisville

  1. Jason Deli’s Chipotle Pot Roast – A giant portion of savory pot roast covered with a delicious chipotle sauce. One word – awesome.

  1. Tony Bombozz’s the Veggie – I am no vegetarian, however, I would be if all vegetarian food tasted this good.

  1. The Irish Rover’s Lamb Burger – Decent price and not overly gamer due to the mix of beef. Best medium rare with blue cheese.

  1. The Brickhouse’s Lamb Burger – A little pricey but excellent. 100% Lamb meat with no beef. The goat cheese is awesome.

  1. Diorio’s Philly Cheese Steak – Finally, a Louisville restaurant that can actually serve one correctly! None locally even come close to this one.

Top 5 Best Ham/CheeseBurgers in Louisville

Note – I have tried all these places and burgers!

5. Dizzy Whizz – Old school and nothing fancy. Simple, yet delicious.

4. Tumbleweed’s En Fuego Burger – Tons of hot pepper with Frank’s Hot Sauce. Also weighs a whopping half-pound.

3. Backdoor’s Back-burner Burger – Been years since I’ve had one. One thing I recall — great grill flavor and always filling.

2. Bluegrass Brewing Company’s Germantown Burger – Take a 1/3 burger and add beer cheese. That equals yummy.

1. Highlands Taproom’s Kentucky Bluegrass Burger – The plain cheese burgers here are excellent. How to make them better? Had a bourbon glaze and top it with blue cheese. Hands down, the best burger in Louisville.

Review – Wal-Mart Auto Center Bashford Manor

Everyone knows I hate Michel Tires of St. Matthews. They are nothing more than con-artists. Valvoline are overpriced chains with below average techs working there. Most other chains are no better. I did a little research and found out that the Wal-Mart at Bashford Manor does oil changes.

Before taking my car there, I read some online reviews. Overall, the reviews were pretty good. One site gave Wal-Mart Auto Center 4.8 stars out of 5.0. No matter how good the service, some jackass will complain. Another website gave them 88% out of a 100%. Most of the negative comments there were from typical snobs who expected a hand job along with the oil change.

They offer four “types” of oil changes at Wal-Mart. The $18.99 Basic, the $29.99 Standard (which is what I got), and two others ( I don’t recall the prices and what was included). The Standard includes inspections on all brakes, lights, carpet cleaned, filters changed and tire pressure checked. Not bad for $29.99.

After being completed, they give you a print out of what was done and what they found wrong. The only thing they found negative was the fact I was a quart low on oil. Michel Tires of St. Matthews would have told me my engine needed replace and would have wanted to replace all four tires. Unlike most places, they didn’t waste my time with lies or trying to pressure me into getting more work done.

It took less than 20 minutes for the oil change. The staff was friendly, overall. No added pressure. My carpets look nice now. And my car seems fine. I wish I would have known about this place sooner. As much as I hate Wal-Mart, their Auto Center made me a fan. Decent prices, good employees and no rip-offs.

Krazy Dave’s of Louisville

Krazy Dave’s is one of those neat little “hole in a wall” bars you find hidden in a middle of a neighborhood. Inside the bar doesn’t look like much. Pretty small. Nothing really sticks out. The bar makes up for it in other ways, though.

They keep it simple at Krazy Dave’s. No chef made food. Just good old fashion bar junk food. If you are on diet, don’t eat here. The bar has a few TV’s, outdoor seating, a pool table, dart boards and of course, karaoke. I’m not saying the karaoke is good. But they have it.

Food 8.5 out of 10 – The food is typical bar food. Chicken wings, burgers and pizza. The chicken wings and chicken fingers are decent, but nothing amazing, as are the fries. The Burgers (Krazy Dave’s Burger) are pretty good. I was amazed at how good the pizza is here. I’ve never heard people mention Krazy Dave’s as a good pizza parlor in Louisville. Their veggie pizza is excellent. What really caught me off guard is how awesome their Philly Cheese Steak is. I would rate it in my top 3 favorites found in Louisville.

Beer Selection – 6 out of 10 – This is the only area I knock Krazy Dave’s for. They have four beers on tap and only a handful of bottles, mostly common beers such as Bud Light, Miller Light and Coors. You will not find a large selection of Microbrews or imports here. On the bright side, very cheap prices when compared to other bars.

Wine/Spirits 8 out of 10 – I think they have wine…… While a small spirits selection, they have a lot of good stuff. They keep around 8-10 decent Kentucky Bourbons, George Dickel and other common and popular brands stocked. I was happy to see Makers 46 and George Dickel Rye on the shelf. Two decent Whiskeys and priced cheap when compared to other bars.

Service 10 out of 10 – This bar is one of the friendliest bars I’ve been to in quite some time. All the bartenders are cool people. My two favorites are Hoyt and Debbie. I’ve never had bad service from anyone here. You make friends here very quickly.

If you are in the Goldsmith Lane area and only have $10 to spend, check out Krazy Dave’s. A pitcher of Miller Lite is only $7. I live in the area and I try to stop by at least bi-weekly. Cool place, good food and cheap prices on most booze!

Overall score – 32.5 out of 40, 81.3% (misleading score due to the beer selection)

Buckheads of the Highlands (Louisville, KY)

I visit the Highlands Buckheads at least once a month. I actually live within walking distance of it. They have a very simple menu and very good happy hour beer prices. They have numerous big flat screen TV’s for watching sports. Normally unlike Buffalo Wild Wings, you can find a seat during a sporting event.

Food 7.5 out of 10 – Food here can be hit and miss. I’ve tried three of their steaks. The first two were average, not worth the $15 price level. The Butter Bourbon Ribeye however, was awesome. I’ve tried two different burgers, both very good (just mad you have to order them medium-well). The Chicken Fried Steak was nothing to brag about. Fries are average. The best food I’ve tried there is their Meatloaf (awesome), Blue Cheese Coleslaw and their Cod. Stay away from their wings. They are terrible!

Beer Selection 8.5 out of 10 – I would rate this higher but, the selection is small. They have excellent microbrews and good imports. They also have good happy hour specials and really good deals during UK and U of L sporting events.

Spirits and Wines 8 out of 10 – For a family bar, they have a decent selection of spirits and wines. I would rate them higher but they over price their Bourbons. They charge $8.50 for Bulleit. Bulleit should be a $6.75 Bourbon.

Service 7 out of 10 – I’ve walked in a few times and the host/hostess will be in groups of 2-3. A few times they have totally ignored me, which is fine, since I normally head to the bar anyways. I’ve only set at a table 3 times I believe due to the bar being packed. The servers have been very hit and miss. The bartenders are average. Only Kimmie does an excellent job. I basically have figured her hours and days out to make sure she will be the one waiting on me.

Overall score 31 out of 40, 77%.

Buckheads is a decent little place to grab a beer and watch a crime. It’s a neat little place to meet a friend and have a few drinks. Nothing special, nothing too fancy.

To prove myself correct like always….

A while back I wrote a review about Dr. Robert Noel’s office. I was very honest in the review. An ex of mine works there and I pointed out some facts about her. A few of her friends emailed me and even left comments on my review calling me a liar. Someone from Facebook sent me a link to a website that keeps track of medical fraud. Shocking that false orders of prescriptions were being called in where she works. I’m not saying it was her. I will say this. The name of the person calling in false orders on the site was the name of her co-worker. I find that to be odd. Why would someone commit fraud in their own name? I think you all get my drift. I can’t prove my ex made the false orders. I will end by saying this. If it smells like a piece of shit, it’s probably shit.

Cinemassacre – great website

Cinemassacre is a cool website ran by James Rolfe. I am a big fan and I look over this site weekly. Rolfe may be best known for being the Angry Video Game Nerd (AVGN). He has tons of popular videos on YouTube. Below is what you can find on Cinemassacre. I will be adding this site to our links list.

Angry Video Game Nerd – He currently has 108 videos under this section. Here Rolfe plays video games, mainly the worst ones of all-time. He cusses, yells and drinks heavily while playing them. Check out the full theme song here.

Board James – Here Rolfe and his friend Mike Matei reviews board games. Sounds stupid but you will find yourself laughing out loud when you see these.

Movie Reviews – Just like what it says. Rolfe and Matei review movies, sometimes shitty ones and normally movies they like. Watching this really makes me feel like a kid again at times. Love the “Back to the Future reviews.

There’s much more to the website than I named above. Just check it out for yourself.
